DU students gear up to land their dream jobs

After incidents like Delhi University Teachers Association strikes, semester system debates and Commonwealth break, now comes good news for DU students. Come October 26, and several government and private sector units are expected to hire DU pass-outs, as they are set to begin the placement drive. The announcement has filled students with hope.

Twenty-year-old Rimmi Sharma is all geared up to bag a cool job for herself in a reputed bank. “I have really tried to put in my best. It might sound funny, but I even read books on ‘how to impress the interviewer and win a job’. I got my resume done professionally. I am really excited about the placement drive, and am looking forward to it. That’s why I utilised the ‘inactive’ time for preparations. Well, one should know how to make the best use of one’s time,” she said.
Like Rimmi, Neeti Prasad, a student of communications, is keen on joining an MNC. “A bunch of my friends and I are brushing up our communication skills. We do mock group discussions and speech exercises. Let’s see how it helps us,” she says.
The Central Placement Cell of DU aims at getting students placed in multi-nationals, government jobs, NGOs and the private sector. The students after getting registered with CPC are entitled to placement assistance, counselling for employment and even self-employment.
So, are strikes a useful tool for students or are they totally unproductive? “Strikes are an important part of the democratic process, and we are pleased to have such a system to put across our grievances in DU. Listening to the counterview is infact for the betterment of the educational system, so a couple of days mulling over the pertinent issues should be fine,” says Suhas Ali, a student.
