Dhanush on every guest list

Ever since Kolaveri went viral, the twee-lebs have been raving about our dusky actor, laurels have been pouring in thick and fast and he’s surely raking in the moolah at every gig. “The Kolaveri Di song from my forthcoming flick 3 is a major turning point in my life and the experiences have been surreal,” says Dhanush.
From lucrative appearances to endorsement deals, the star is enjoying all the attention and it seems the who’s who of India want to have a slice of him. The biggest honour in recent times that he considers precious is the invitation from none other than Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “When I got a call from the PM’s office and was told that I’d been chosen as one of the special invitees from all over the country for the State dinner hosted by Prime Ministerji for Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda at his Race Course residence, for a moment I did not know what was happening! I had mixed reactions,” he smiles. He continues, “I am happy I could make my parents proud without anyone’s support.”
The National Award-winner who is supported in all his efforts by his able wife, Aishwarya says, “Oh no! The invite is strictly for one person and that is me. There is lot of protocol to be followed, like, I guess I am not allowed to take even my mobile inside the banquet hall,” he quips.
Recalling his luncheon meeting with Ratan Tata, Dhanush says, “When Ratanji himself personally called me and invited me for a meal at his home, it was unbelievable. I remember answering a five-mark question about Ratan Tata when I was in class eight. He was witty, charming and very gracious as a host.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
