A date for intimacy

Sex, they say, is a pivotal catalyst for a healthy relationship but modern day lifestyle does not allow the time for long lasting intimacy. Couples are so involved with the unremitting competition and the urge to be on top of the ladder that sex just gets pushed down on the list of priorities. Shilpi Kumar, a data analyst from Mumbai wanted the ‘spice’ back in her love life and found an interesting way to attain it. “I was watching Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey, with my girl friends (who were all married) and the idea seemed interesting. In the movie, they went on a dinner date every week so we thought why not a sex date?”
Married couples spend their off-days either lazing or buying groceries. This could be a special break from the typical Sundays.
“We decided to spend the time together and it seemed to click. We are in bed, spending quality time with each other — we talk, recall old days, laugh at each other and it feels absolutely good,” Shilpi adds.
With time people get used to each other and the passion too seems to reduce. “When we had just started going around, we would always stick to each other. From parties to poker games, everywhere! But after three years, things changed. The best way to recharge our sex life was not just a hurried act but something that was more passionate that would help us understand each other better,” says Saurav Krishnan, a Chennai-based entrepreneur.
Couples actually take the trouble to think out of the ordinary to plan a special day. “We do it once in two or three weeks and that day no one cooks. From aroma candles to exquisite fragrances and from exotic lingerie to sex toys, we plan it out well in advance and trust me it’s all worth it,” says 33-year-old Amit Shukla.
Family counsellor Anuradha Swamy says, “Couples come to me with issues like infidelity and the people who cheat often give the reason that their respective partners didn’t have time for them and they had to seek support from someone else. Earlier we asked them to go on long holidays, maybe a second honeymoon but now the concept of sex dates is feasible.
Now that both the partners work, this seems to be a suitable option to keep the fuel burning.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
