Dancing against corrupt system

They came, they saw, they danced. A flash mob of youngsters performing at the crowded Model Town market on Friday afternoon was the capital’s way of celebrating Lohri with a message against corruption. The flash mob started with 50 performers, who were later joined by bystanders and shoppers in the market.
The aim of this flash mob was to raise awareness about the scams and corruption in our country. It was an initiative of Tulsi NGO and the concept was created by members of Bounce dance studio. Jagnoor Aneja, project head and choreographer of the flash mob, says, “On the occasion of Lohri, we thought of gathering together and celebrating it as a collective effort to eradicate corruption. We danced on three Bollywood tracks namely Jai Ho, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Yeh Public Hai Yeh Sab Jaanti Hai. Around 100-150 people gathered at the market to see us dancing and it was a great experience to dance in front of the public and surprise them.”
The performers donned T-shirts, caps and carried banners with anti-corruption slogans. Krish Kalra, a student, aspiring model and a participant says, “Along with youngsters, the contestants of Mr and Miss Delhi NCR 2012 also participated at this event and danced on the roads to generate awareness. It was a very different experience as none of us had danced on the road before.”
Earlier too a flash mob was attempted in the capital but it was disrupted due to security issues. Hence, this time the organisers were careful about procuring prior permission.
Karishma Sinha, a student at Janki Devi Memorial College, says, “I participated in something like this for the first time and I was very excited to perform in the middle of a market. It was good that the organisers had planned everything in advance and we did not face any hassles.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
