A cut above the rest

Call him an artist or a designer, Adam Saaks, the scissor artist, is a perfect blend of both. The internationally renowned custom couture T-shirt and dress cutter was in the capital recently. Adam launched his book Love At First Cut and showcased his talent by performing live at the Bristol Hotel in Gurgaon. Adam transformed a plain tee into a gorgeous top for model Hasleen Kaur within minutes at the event.
The designer also revealed that he completely relies on his scissors for the exceptional art, which he developed on his own. He says, “I did not learn this art from anyone, I developed it on my own. I like to cut and create new outfits from various garments. When I was young I started cutting plain tees to create new wearable outfits from them. I think, the most important thing while dealing with scissors is safety and one has to be really careful in dealing with this sharp tool.”
The T-shirt cutter is famous with the Hollywood celebrities for his wonderful T-shirt shredding technique. He says, “I have cut customised T-shirts for Eva Longoria, Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Justin Timberlake, Lindsay Lohan and Katy Perry. I really had a good time designing and creating T-shirts for Mariah, Katy and Eva. In India, I will be meeting Mallika Sherawat as she is a friend’s friend.”
The designer also mentioned that it is his second trip to India and this time he plans to see some famous monuments. “I want to visit the Taj Mahal and a few other places. Here, I also tried the spicy Indian food, and though I can’t remember the name I think it was one of the best meals I ever had,” he signs off.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
