Customised workouts for every body shape

Have you ever wondered why some people never put on weight? Or worked hard on your waif thin frame to achieve an hourglass figure, in vain? Well, blame it all on the body type. Celebrity fitness trainer Leena Mogre explains, “Each of us has a unique body-build that is determined by genes. And while you cannot easily change your body type, the right kind of workout coupled with a proper diet can help you get the best of what you have.”

Hourglass
A lady with an hourglass figure has mass on her upper and lower body with a willowy waist. “people with this body type should take care of their diet. Increase your intake of protein, green vegetables, nuts and eggs, while minimising the consumption of sugar,” says Leena. “basic exercises like skipping, brisk walking or jogging are ideal,” she adds.

Pear
A person with a pear-like physique has bigger lower body. “Women with this body type have excessive fat around their buttocks, hips and thighs,” points out Leena. “Skipping, cycling, jumping jacks, side leg raises and push-ups could be helpful in fixing their problem zones. A diet comprising fruits, vegetables, chicken and egg white is ideal,” she adds.

Ruler
Waif-thin women with a ruler-type body usually tend to exercise the least as they are naturally thin. They are not curvy as there is no prominent difference between their waist, chest and hip sizes. “A diet that is rich in protein, complex carbohydrates and calcium is a must for such people. Simple stretching, sit-ups, crunches targeting the lower abdomen and squats are the ideal workouts for them.”

Apple
Most Indians have an apple-shaped body — protruding belly and a heavy frame.
“In this type of body shape, fat gets accumulated in the upper part of the torso and the waist area. Such people are often at the risk of being affected with lifestyle diseases. Their diet should include sufficient amount of healthy fats and fiber-rich complex carbohydrates, which include vegetables, fruits and whole grains,” explains Leena.
Aerobics can be an excellent workout to lose the body fat.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
