Croon a song for ‘change’
Delhi has been under constant media glare for incidents of rape and crime against women. But that one ray of hope among Delhiwallas is their commitment to come out strongly against such incidents in the recent past. Not just protest gatherings, many creative initiatives have been taken including mobile apps and free self-defence classes to help everyone stay safe.
One such initiative was the one taken by Sameer Khullar, founder of Delhi based music studio ‘Music Manthan’, who recently released a song titled Bas Kar Delhi as a protest against Delhi becoming the rape capital. The song has already got over 2,000 hits on YouTube and close to 4,500 hits on rediff.com.
“I hate my city being called the ‘Rape City’ but unfortunately, it has become so. I felt it was the need of the hour to do whatever we can to fight against it and that’s how this song came into existence,” shares Sameer, who is a music producer, composer and singer and established Music Manthan three years back to promote new talent.
Talking about the idea behind the song, Sameer adds, “The idea is not to let the movement against sexual crimes fade with time. Every time such an incident happens, we light candles at India Gate and protest passionately. But then it all fades. This song is an attempt to constantly remind the people of Delhi that we need to fight against this menace. That every single effort counts when it comes to making a difference.”
