Couture carnival in city
Delhi, the fashion capital of our country finally gets its first couture week. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) recently announced that in month of July fashion lovers in the city will witness the extravagant ‘Delhi Couture Week’, which will be held from July 20 to 25 at the The Grand, Vasant Kunj. The logo and the sponsors of the
event were also revealed at the conference, where FDCI President, Sunil Sethi introduced the names of 13 designers, who would be presenting their creations at the DCW.
Sunil Sethi informs, “The Delhi Couture Week is going to be big in terms of creativity, and the best couturiers from the country will be showcasing their talent. We have shortlisted the best names and zeroed in on 13 designers, who’ll be having shows on the runway during these six days. Also we have six designers, who’ll be putting up installations at the venue during the entire event.”
So will the Delhi edition of couture week affect the Mumbai’s couture calendar in any way? “No, the Mumbai couture week will go as planned,” replies Sunil Sethi. The designers, who’ll have runway shows during the Delhi couture week, are Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra, Gaurav Gupta, JJ Valaya, Manav Gangwani, Pallavi Jaikishan, Raakesh Agarvwal, Rina Dhaka, Rohit Bal, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Suneet Varma and Varun Bahl. The special installations will be designed by designers like Ekru by Ekta and Ruchira, Geisha designs by Paras and Shalini, Jaya Rathore, Monapali, Reynu Taandon and Satya Paul.
In the recent Mumbai couture week, a renowned designer duo pulled out in the last minute due to problems in seating arrangements, so FDCI will make sure DCW will have no such problems. Says Sunil Sethi, “There will be more number of reserved seats, and guests will see shows comfortably. The sets will be lavish and the designers will be putting their best creations forward.”
Designer Rohit Bal, who is all set to showcase his ensembles after a prolonged period of illness says, “The theme of my show is a secret as if now, but it’s surely going to be different from the prêt collections. The term ‘haute couture’ actually means high sewing and all the designers will be presenting their best work during this week. Not every designer can be a couturier and every ensemble is hand-stitched. The quality and craftsmanship will be of high quality in each show.”
