Colours in, black out for partyholics
Young clubbers sport bright shades
Better safe than sorry is the unsaid rule in fashion, but what’s life without a little risk and adventure? As clichéd as it could be but black has always been the queen of the glam world. However, the empress has finally been dethroned by the shades of crazy colour combinations and patterns.
Delhi divas have finally bid goodbye to the boring black and are taking couture to the parties.
The club dress code has been dominated by black but now women are not shying away from bold hues. Designer Jenjum Gadi mentions, “In modern India, the fashion sensibilities have evolved drastically over the past few years and now women are more expressive. With more choices in fashion, one can choose from prêt to a high-end couture garment, depending on the occasion and budget. Now even at clubs, you’ll find women wearing bright floral printed dress or haute couture gowns.”
Ashu Gupta, a marketing professional and frequent club hopper, mentions how colourful clothing at clubs is the new trend. She says, “Earlier most of my formal and club wear was either black or white, but now I have started wearing more colours because now there are so many more options in colourful evening wear. This year colour blocking was huge, so I invested in cool monotones and paired them on different occasions. People are now wearing psychedelic patterns and neon coloured dresses to clubs , so it’s a pleasant change from black.”
Designer Gaurav Jagtiani also agrees that people have started looking beyond black and are opting for more colours. He says, “As Indians we have a strong affinity towards colours and since designers all over the world have started incorporating colours in the evening wear, you will see a marked change in the party dress code everywhere. The black usage in collections has been reduced. Now one can find shades of scarlet, neon colours and cobalt entering the club scene in a big way.”
Socialite Tanisha Mohan feels that there is no replacement for the LBD, but with changing runway trends fashionistas are definitly warming up to various colours and styles rather than following the old norms.
She says, “These days Baroque is really big on the runway. All across the world designers have created Baroque-inspired evening wear so it has automatically entered our wardrobe. This year animal prints are also big and I have purchased many of them this year, that I have been wearing.”
