Citrus adds zing to a drink
Wheels, slices, wedges, twists — citrus garnishes are perhaps the most used garnishes in cocktails and the shapes they come in play a crucial role in determining the overall taste of the drink. Margaritas, Bloody Marys and several other cocktails use citrus wedges (mainly lemon) that are served perched on the rim of a glass. One can either squeeze it or simply drop the wedge into the glass before drinking.
Cocktails like Screwdrivers use orange wheels or slices as garnishes. One can simply eat the garnish at any time during the course of consuming the cocktail.
Wafer-thin citrus peels are often added as decorative flourishes to cocktails like Cosmopolitans. Twists are not just for garnish value but add to the flavour and dimension of the drink thanks to the aromatic oils present in the peel.
