Chill out at cosy cafes

College canteens have long maintained the “best hangout zone” status. But it seems like small cafeterias are now taking over. With scores of tiny food joints scattered around the university campuses, there are plenty of places to explore. New cosy cafés are the talk of the town where youngsters can sit for hours together and carelessly chit chat with buddies.
“Be it the Cha Bar in CP or Passion, a tea bar in Vasant Vihar, we hang out at relaxing cafeterias places after college. You can just order your favourite tea or coffee and sit there for hours and gossip. We usually end up at Passion as we love their masala chai in matkas,” says Monica Nathani, a DU student.
From those that offer Darjeeling brews with exotic names and other fragrant beverages that make your day, to others that serve hot samosas and muffins to go with the tea, tucked in different corners of Delhi these cafes are easy on the pockets as well.
For IIT Delhi students, nothing beats the coffee at Nescafe stall on campus. Al Bake is a favourite with students in the Defence Colony area.
“All dhabas and local joints in NFC are amazing. From Chinese, Punjabi food and pastries everything in that market is available at quite reasonable rates. You can hang out at the lavish outlets only on weekends, but during weekdays you need a place that serves you tea or coffee at economical rates. And eventually that place becomes your favourite hang out zone,” says Lohit, a DU student.
For North campus students, Kamla Nagar’s Chacha Chole Bhature rules over all else when it comes to yummy food. With no seating arrangements available, you’ll always find the outlet teeming with youngsters. Sonali, a commerce student from North Campus tells us, “You must try the chole bhature there. It’s a walking distance from our college and we usually bunk classes and go there to eat. Sometimes we even get there early in the morning, even before the classes start.”
The Kunzum Travel Cafe in Hauz Khas is buzzing with youngsters all day long. Not very old, this place has already won over many hearts. “This is by far the best place in Delhi that I have visited having explored plenty other options in the past one year that I’ve been in the city. What makes it different from all other cafes is the informal ambience, and the beautiful photographs on the cafe’s walls. The coffee here is brilliant,” says Meru, a student from Chandigarh.
And when talking about the best joints in the capital, JNU students can’t stop raving about the samosas and chai at the Ganga Dhaba, located within the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus. “I love the lip-smacking paranthas and aloo bondas there. The ambience is always resounding with intellectual discussions, which makes it the most happening place in campus,” says Sumati, a masters student from JNU.
