‘Children are my greatest creation’
Style spells a strong statement for designer Diane Von Furstenberg, the creator of the iconic wrap dress. The president of Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and winner of lifetime achievement award from CFDA in 2005 was in the capital recently and spoke about her passion for fashion.
Diane is one of the most influential personalities in the global fashion scenario. Talking about her fashion choices she says, “I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be — independent, not letting a father or husband pay the bills. And, as I went on the road with my cosmetics and clothes, and met women and struck up relationships with them, I realised I had become the woman I wanted to be, by helping other women become who they wanted to be.”
The wrap dress with its bold prints and changeable silhouettes has become a symbol of power and independence for an entire generation of women. The fashionista reveals, “There are four things I feel every fashionable woman should have in her wardrobe: the wrap dress, a fitted pair of jeans for every occasion, a pair of high heels to make you feel sexy and a beautiful embroidered ‘something’, dress or top, depending on your personal style.”
Diane is married to Barry Diller. She has two children, Alexander and Tatiana, and three grandchildren. And despite all the accolades she has won for her success in the world of fashion, she says with a smile, “Children are my greatest creation.”
