Raja Reddy is not like other teenagers; at 17 he is a pianist, a music composer in Tollywood, has a YouTube channel with a crazy following, his own recording studio in Secunderabad and has worked with musical geniuses like Keeravani, Koti and Ashirwad Luke.

Raj (as he’s known) says, “I was six when I showed promise in music, so my parents got me to train under some of the best like Neecia Majolly, one of the finest pianists in India.” Raj, who is also a trained Carnatic singer says, “Since I wanted to pursue music as a career, I was home schooled after my fourth grade.”
He adds, “As I grew up, I got enrolled with the Royal School of Music (RSM) of London and by the time I was 12, I finished all my grades.” Raj was one of the youngest to graduate from the RSM, the youngest before him was 15.
The composer of two films, June Pothe July and another untitled project, Raj, who is currently studying at NIIT, credits his success to his parents, “They saw my passion and decided to tap it.”
Ask him about his tryst with T-town and he says, “After my education, I was composing for a few short films; through these projects I met a couple of people and a few were introduced by friends too.”
Raj has worked with the likes of Keeravani and Koti, “My dad introduced me to Keeravani sir. I worked with him for a brief period of time for Maga-dheera,” he explains.
“Currently I’m working on EDM and Dubstep,” he says. But with mass music ruling in T-town, will people open up to something new? He says, “That’s why I’m working on mixing genres.” What about Bollywood, any plans to shift base? “Currently I’m busy with projects here, but if I get an offer, then why not!”
Having been working for most part of his teenage years apart from being home-schooled, ask him if he misses being like his peers and he says “I do,” adding, “But everything comes with a price and I don’t regret it.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
