Chaplin makes B’wood debut

Kiera Chaplin, the granddaughter of Sir Charlie Chaplin, is all set for her Bollywood journey. The young actress who made her Bollywood debut with Rajshree Ojha’s Chaurahen, talks about her love for the Indian film industry and the experience of working with the Indian director.
“It was a great experience to be in India. I was glad to be working with Rajshree Ojha in her out-of-the-box film Chaurahen. I loved the script and found the stories very touching. Rajshree was wonderful to work with and had a great vision of what she wanted.”
She is keen to do more Hindi films if she gets the right offers. “I would love to do more Hindi films. I’m open to all kinds of films as long as the script touches me and I can understand where my character is coming from.”
Talking about Bollywood, she says she loved the songs and the colours of the film. “While filming I was in Kolkata so I didn’t get to experience much of Bollywood. However, I have noticed that Bollywood movies are all about singing and dancing and are full of colours and fun. I love Rang De Basanti. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is one of my favourite Indian directors and I would love to work with him in future,” she adds.
She has also been actively involved in modelling and owns a clothing line. “I started modeling when I was a teenager and still do it quite often. Recently I shot for Vogue and have been doing the campaign for Hogan by Karl Lagerfeld,” she says.
Talking about her grandfather Charlie Chaplin’s genius and his creative legacy, she says, “The main thing I take from my grandfather is my love for the art. Apart from that, I try and concentrate on doing what I love and do it the best I can.”
Director Rajshree Ojha is all praise for this fresh face. “It was great to launch Kiera Chaplin in my film. She is such a lovely person. It was a pleasure working with her and honestly she didn’t make us feel that she comes from the family of a legend. It was great directing her in the film. She was quite professional with the team. You find very few people with such a down-to-earth attitude. She was enthusiastic and believed in me completely. I would love to direct her again,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
