Celebs hooked to English series
Be it Henry Goodson or Vince Goodson in $#*! My Dad Says or Sean Walker from the show The Event, they promise an episode of entertainment and stick to it. English shows are hugely popular amongst our glam set who ensure they do not miss any episode.
Snooker player Pankaj Advani says, “I am a nocturnal person. I catch these shows at night on TV. In case I miss the episode I record it. The jokes on Family Guy never get old, no matter how many times you watch the episodes.”
Most shows provide for a good laugh in each episode. “There is always something new and humorous to look forward to and there is no melodrama involved in any of them,” says vocalist of One Night Stand, Behram Siganporia. The humour in American or British shows never takes a slapstick path. “It cannot get anymore English than Mr Bean. That is one show I can watch reruns of all the time and still laugh my heart out,” says model Zoheb Yusuf. The humour on these shows is a lot more refined.
Many people enjoy serious international sitcoms as well. House, The Event and CSI: Miami are the hot favourites. Choreographer Sneha Kapoor says, “These shows are immensely fascinating. The weirdest things have an explanation to it. They follow a sensible pattern of reasoning and logic.” Though a few viewers find House to be gory, there are others who need a dose of the show every day. Sneha adds, “I have seen episodes of House back to back. The show keeps me on the edge of my seat.” Leila Buchanan and Sean Walker of The Event are a couple that have also created an impact on viewers.
The characters in these shows are ones that an urban audience can relate to. “In Indian shows, there is always the evil person creating trouble for a happy family. Nobody has the time to interfere and scheme with another person's life in reality,” says Pankaj.
