Celeb tactics to beat the jitters
Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence, who won the lead actress Oscar statuette for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, recently revealed that she calms her nerves with food. The 22-year-old actress said that she was so nervous before attending the Oscars in 2011 that she relaxed by tucking into a hearty meal before walking the red carpet, Contactmusic reported.
Walking in a social gathering, especially a red carpet, can make many nervous, and celebrities adopt various means to control their nerves.
Actress Kalki Koechlin says, “Yes, I too experience nerves. I really don’t think I’ve conquered my nerves yet. I’ve tried food, alcohol, breathing techniques, screaming, and listening to music before getting on the red carpet. But I still feel like a deer in the headlights when I’m facing the cameras. I guess my way of dealing with nerves is just confronting and accepting that I’m nervous and smile anyway.”
Actress Richa Chadda, who recently won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for Gangs of Wasseypur, battled the jitters on the awards night. “When I was announced as the winner, I was numb. My legs were wobbly when I was walking up to the stage. I had to control my breath, keep my pace slow and kept absorbing the thing. It gave me some time to recover, but when I reached the stage, I had to give an acceptance speech in front of legends like Sridevi and all, that moment got me. Though I clearly betrayed my nervousness, it is better to be spontaneous. Still, deep breathing works for me,” says the actress. “I can very well relate to what Jennifer must have experienced, she even fell,” she adds.
Actor Rajneesh Duggal turns to music to control his nervousness. “At times a bit of anxiety and nervousness is good as it gives you positive energy. But if you think it’s becoming overwhelming, then deep breathing helps. Personally, I listen to music when I need to control my nerves. Music has the energy that helps me calm down and distracts my attention a bit,” says Rajneesh.
Jism 2 actor Arunoday Singh too turns to music when nervous. “I mostly listen to blues when nervous, but such moments hardly come by. Probably it is different when you walk the red carpet at Oscars,” he says.
TV actor Samir Soni confesses, “I am always nervous and anxious when I am supposed to socialise. I just can’t bring myself to go to a social gathering or an award function. Though I am comfortable interacting with fans, crowded places make me anxious. I have still not been able to get over it, but my wife Neelam helps me with it. I guess the way to control your nerves is to face your fear again and again. So, I make a conscious effort to go out and meet people now,” ends Samir.
