Campus fashion ups style meter

As colleges reopen, freshers flaunt cool trends and interestingly team up ensembles to glam up the campus. Youngsters express their new-found freedom by making a perfect style statement in Jleggings, harem pants, kaftans and teeny-weeny minis. We tell you what’s in, how you can sizzle and make all your batchmates envy your style.
As leggings and long tees have been there for a while, check tunic tops and shirts with tights are getting popular among girls. Aishwaya, who is studying in SRCC, says, “It’s not about being fashionable, but more about being comfortable. In summer, loose shirts are easy to carry and checks look really chic. They add colour to your style and also look trendy when you team them up with a sling bag and wacky flip-flops.”
And besides all the junk jewellery, Kolhapuri chappals, Afghan pants, Retro-style colourful square frames have become the staple of the campus stylebook, this year.
Damini Ralleigh, a student of Miranda House, shares, “I like to try different looks, sometimes I travel back in time to the 70s and 80s, with purple frames, teamed up with short and loose shirts. This trend is catching up because Taylor Swift wore it in her new song My Guitar and Sonam Kapoor looked cute in it in I Hate Love Storys. Girls are now saying no to boring blacks and browns and going gaga over frames in vibrant shades like reds, greens and purples.”
Seconds, Tshering, who loves the geeky look. She says, “It looks quite fashionable and out-of-the-box. Dungaree-style denims with casual red canvas shoes is what I love to flaunt.”
And, when it comes to trendy tress codes, short haircuts, much alike Victoria Beckham and Keira Knightly are in and they are going to stay in vogue for a while. Visieno Kiso, a DU student from Nagaland loves her short hairdo.
She says, “I was quite bored of my long ponytail. And as hair is the most noticeable feature, I love to experiment.” But Sugandha Tyagi, a student with a “graduated bob cut” says, “It’s funky, but you have to brush your hair quite often. But, I feel this hairstyle goes well with my personality.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
