A brush with reality
He’s known for his hard-hitting, gritty films like Chandni Bar and Traffic Signal, but when Madhur Bhandarkar was privy to the real life stories of some truly courageous women at a recent event in Kolkata, he couldn’t hold back his tears. The event was organised by members of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation (Ficci-Flo).
The theme for the event was “Learning — a lifelong journey” and the idea was to have Madhur share experiences from his own past as well as discuss learning that could turn out to be game changers for other individuals as well.
To an audience comprising women from different walks of life, Madhur spoke about his films like Corporate, Satta, Page 3, Fashion and even Heroine. Following an elaborate round of questions that were graciously answered by Madhur, the event ended on an emotional note as the women shared their own stories of struggle, and how they triumphed.
“It’s all down to sheer will power. Indian women are anyway considered strong, but as you dig deeper, you realise that there is a world out there where there are stories waiting to be told. Ficci-Flo has been doing some amazing work. Rather than just sharing my journey, I came back enriched, having learnt so much,” Madhur said of the event.
