The Boys get booked
After London, Paris and Mumbai, it was the turn of Delhi to witness the launch of two colossal volumes of coffee table books — India Fantastique by Indian couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The Mumbai-based designers recently visited the capital to formally introduce their fashion and interior décor books at Hotel Imperial.
Creating these books was pure “indulgence” for the designers as this was the final culminating point of their 25 years in fashion industry. The book features exclusive shots of their creative artworks in the field of fashion and interiors, and it is dedicated to their eternal muse — India.
Speaking about the book, Sandeep mentions, “We feel that a book lives forever. Even though the idea of doing coffee table books wasn’t a profitable proposition, we gave it a shot, as this was something that we always wanted to do. It took us around two-and-a-half years to complete this project. Luckily we received fabulous response from over 50 countries. In March, we will be launching these books in New York.”
The book was shot in the most exquisite locations across the globe, including Death Valley and LA in the USA, London, Bath and Brighton in England, Morocco, Mumbai, Jaipur and Udaipur in India.
Speaking about the memorable anecdotes during the shoot, Sandeep says, “We had a crazy time shooting in the middle of nowhere in the Death Valley, and even the shoot with elephants in Udaipur was a memorable one. Both the photographers Ram Shergill (for fashion) and Deidi Von Schaewen (for interiors) did some beautiful photo shoots.”
London-based photographer Ram Shergill mentions, “Doing this book with Abu and Sandeep was a great experience. We did some great thematic shoots with the models and the lavish ensembles created by the designers. The idea was to exhibit Indian arts and handicrafts in their outfits with a modern theme.”
