Books on iMan fly off the shelves
The iMan is no more, but he continues to inspire the world through his thoughts and inventions. Just hours after Steve Jobs passed away, books about him started selling like hot cakes. iCon Steve Jobs tops the list in the city.
“The sales have shot up by more than 90 per cent in the last few days. People are anxiously waiting for more books but iCon is selling the most. We haven’t yet received bookings for his much-awaited biography,” says Mirza Asad Beig of Midland.
As for his biography, which is scheduled for release soon, what people are looking forward to reading are his works, which tell them more about Steve as a person. “Much about his professional life is already known. So now, we have people asking about books that revolve around his personal life as well. But unfortunately, there aren’t many such works. The demand for books on Steve has jumped manifolds,” says owner of a popular bookstore in South Extension II.
In fact, what youngsters are looking for are compilations of Steve’s illuminating quotes. Launching quicker than expected, I, Steve: Steve Jobs in His Own Words along with Steve Jobs, a Biography by Walter Isaacson, is something everyone is waiting for. “I am waiting for the release of more books about his inspirational talks. I wish we could all get to read something about his lectures. Some of these links are available online, but it would be great if they’re available in print,” says Devantanu, a media professional.
A manager of the Bahrisons store in Khan Market further tells us they sold more than 15 copies within two days of his demise. “There was suddenly a huge demand for iCon and The Steve Jobs Way. We got more than 15-20 orders in the first two days,” says Dev from Bahrisons.
And some have created Steve special bookshelves for their customers. “We can’t reveal the increase in numbers, but Steve Jobs has suddenly become a rage in the literature market, and everyone wants to know about him. To help customers, we’ve allocated shelves for books on him,” says a manager from Full Circle.
