Bizarre accounts flood social sites

Inayat is just a few days old and already has a Twitter account. Born to a Twitter-crazy couple, who have been more than active on the social networking site, sharing their experience of parenthood with friends and relatives right from the day she was conceived, Inayat has a two-year-old sister Nehmat, who too has a Twitter account and a large number of followers.

If you find this bizarre, then meet Vedant Gulati, class 10 student, whose pet dog Candy Gulati has an account on Facebook. Vedant says, “Some of my friends started Twitter accounts in their pets’ names, and Facebook even has applications such as Dogbook, Catbook, Horsebook etc. So I also thought of introducing Candy to the social networking world. Candy now has 175 friends.”
Dogmateonline.com and Dateyourpet.in are a few of the websites where people can put up details of their pets and in turn can see the profiles of other “potential” mates for their pets. The portal was born by chance when Ishita Sukhadwala, the brain behind the site, was searching for a mate for her family dog Rocky, a Doberman. Says Ishita, “Our site offers a window through which pet owners can be sure of traits to ascertain that the pets will bond well once they start living together.”
Sayantani Sen (name changed) is a big fan of the Bard. So much so that a year back or so her Facebook declared her to be Juliet, whereas her friends, on her request, agreed to change their names to various characters from Romeo and Juliet.
Udita Vaswani, a class 9 student, says that she has to find a boyfriend for her Barbie doll. “My doll has had a series of break-ups and now I want her to be in a steady relationship. My classmates keep sending her proposals on Facebook. I am sure she will find her love soon,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
