Bharat ka mann Deol-ey!

Bharat and Esha

Bharat and Esha

All dolled up in a bejewelled lehenga, Esha Deol looked like a pretty bride, straight out of a shaadi mandap with her husband Bharat Takhtani dressed in a sherwani at a recent event.

Esha and Bharat were school friends and then fell in love and got married. Bharat, who looks reticent at first, quips, “She was actually my first love. I liked her in school but had never told her that as she was only 15 then. We reconnected on Facebook and that time I was in the US and she was in Canada and I really wanted to meet her again. Esha was acting and I had joined my dad’s jewellery business then. I didn’t have a visa for Canada, so we decided to meet at the Niagara Falls and confessed to her that she was my crush since school days.”
We prod Esha and she says, “What I really liked about Bharat was his family values, his simplicity and his outlook towards life. I also find him very handsome. No matter how hard he might party or how rich his family might be, he still holds strong traditional values, which is evident from the way he respects his parents. I knew it then if I married him, he would love me the same way. We still stay in the same house as his parents and I’m enjoying my married life.”
Esha has no plans to get back to acting immediately. “I’m getting back only next year. I also have plans to work in the family jewellery business. Regarding politics, I will take it as it comes. I need to experience more of life now.”
We wonder if the jeweller husband showers his lady love with diamonds and Bharat asserts, “I do, but it’s not the material pleasures. Diamonds are there, but it’s about keeping each other happy.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
