Better laws for nation

We all know that 62 years back our Constitution came into effect on January 26, and recently we saw a huge movement to introduce the Lokpal Bill where youngsters played a major role by supporting this campaign.
On the occasion of Republic Day, we check with college students about the relevant amendments they want to see in the book of supreme law for the betterment of the country.
Trishala Shandilya, student at Jesus and Mary College, feels people should be given more rights so that they can express their opinions without any fear.
She says, “The biggest flaw in our system that I see is the lack of transparency. We should have a system where all the powerful bodies like judiciary and administrative offices can be tracked by common man also. The introduction of RTI was a great move, but it has a loopholes and if we have to strengthen the laws, we should have more such solutions.”
Samapt Singh Rathore, a B.Com student at Delhi University, hopes to see a secure environment for women in our country. He says, “We should have better laws to protect women. I feel a nation can only develop when women in that society feel safe and have equal rights. I hope we have more stringent punishments for crime against women. Like other developed nations, we should also value each citizen in our country and ensure security for them.”
Many feel that we should have more laws and rights for students in order to get the educational system in place. Rajat Singh, a student at IIPM, says, “We should make education compulsory for all Indian children till the age of 15. It will make them capable and give them a right direction in life.”
Whereas, some students feel that we should have a clean and pollution free society and there should be more laws to protect the environment.
Suman Sharma, a student at KNC, says, “India is home to some of the rarest flora and fauna, but due to the lack of proper laws it is destroyed every day. I strongly feel we should have strict punishments for people who cut trees and kill wild animals.”

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
