Behavioural grades to fix naughty kids right
So now if you behave right in school, there are chances you might just score that extra bit. If all goes as planned, schools will award higher grades in subjects under the scholastic category (that includes English, mathematics, science or social science) to students who get exceptionally good scores in co-scholastic areas where their attitude towards the teacher, discipline, or leadership qualities are tested.
The decision is not only getting a nod from parents but also from teachers who intend to set naughty students right.
“We already have a system where we give grades to students for their attitudes. These grades denote some marks for instance, an ‘A’ stands for 10 marks. And the teacher gives these marks only after analysing the students’ behaviour for a year. We have been given indicators by CBSE on behavioural traits like thinking skills etc and no teacher can give grades on the basis of her own perception,” says Jasjeet Kaur, a teacher from Kendriya Vidyalya, Noida.
Teachers from various school, where attitude is not given much weightage feel that with changing times, it’s a great way to pull the strings of the notorious bunch of students. “There are many students who just don’t know how to behave with teachers. Some of them in fact, especially the ones from affluent families have an indifferent attitude. They believe that they can get away with anything. If they know their behaviour can have serious affects on their marks, it will really sober them down,” says Richa, a teacher from a well-known school in the capital.
Most agree that these marks will add to the overall development of a child ensuring right values are inculcated in school.
