Banker takes devotional route to music
He learnt classical Carnatic music right from the age of 15, but today nearly 1,000 songs later, A. Sekar carries three prestigious titles — an elite world record, an Asian Records Academy award, and an Indian Records Academy award. We caught up with Sekar, who opens up on his journey to God.
He made his first album only nine years back, dedicating his very first album to Lord Eachanari Vinayaka, and in turn became an ardent devotee.
Motivated by his first album, there was no stopping for this retired banker. Post his retirement; to ensure that his love for singing was not short-lived, he opened a firm called Sekar’s Center for Service: Devotional Service Through Music. He says, “I have sung 1,000 devotional songs till date.” Sekar says, “I have also distributed over five lakh CDs to devotees. I have opted to seek the help of sponsors along the way, because I am doing this out of my own will.”
He adds, “Dr Padmasri S.P. Balasubramaniam has always been my idol and motivation. I have also sung with him in a few of his albums.”
On his genre of music he says, “My mother, A. Janaki was a Carnatic singer. She sang for All India Radio back in the day. So, music has been resonating around me all through my life.”
