Band makes music with phone apps
Technology has certainly changed the way the world thinks, at least for a five-member band based in Bengaluru who made full use of mobile technology. Rave iBand, that comprises of serious musicians Riccha Paul, Charan Raj, Dj Jdee, Vanil Veigas and Ricky Kej, uses mobile phone apps to compose music.
The guitarist uses a guitar app, drummer uses a drum app and the vocalist sings into a smartphone using a microphone app. Riccha Paul, the vocalist and also a jazz singer, says that it happened accidentally when Ricky (music composer and owner of Raveloution Studios) was fiddling with an iPhone. “Once he got hold of the app, he spent around an hour on it and came up with a good composition,” says Riccha, who was working with Ricky’s company Raveloution Studios at that time.
“He came to the four of us and showed how he had composed the song. We were awestruck in the beginning. But later, we also used the apps according to our preferred genre and started working,” says Riccha, adding that it was after this incident that the five came together as a band with a couple of iPhones and Tablets in November last year.
Now, while they have given a new touch to many hit songs including Sheila Ki Jawani that has become quite popular on YouTube, they are also in the process of composing serious music that the youth can relate to. “Till now we are the first iBand in Asia. And we don’t know of any popular band that works with apps in other parts of the world too. It’s an opportunity for us to carve a niche,” says Riccha.
