‘B’wood has changed me’

He has been in the news more for his off-screen chemistry with English model Amy Jackson than for his upcoming film Ek Deewana Tha. Ask Prateik about this and he looks at you blankly.
About reports of his link-up with Amy bothering him, he says, “Initially, they did. But now we have understood that there are bound to be rumours when you are working in a romantic film.” Prateik was in the capital with co-actor Amy Jackson at the Gloria Jean’s Coffee outlet, PVR Priya Complex, recently.
Till now, the actor has only opted for roles that are somewhat unconventional. He played the reclusive brother of Genelia in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, a poignant role of a dhobi in Dhobi Ghaat. However, in Ek Deewana… Prateik plays the romantic lead.
He found it fascinating to be part of a romantic movie. “It wasn’t difficult to romance, but it was different and fascinating for sure,” he says, adding that he has been a die-hard romantic since his childhood. Amy, who was quietly sitting beside him till now, is quick to add, “And he has done a really great job as a romantic hero. He looks like a serious man but when it came to singing and dancing with me in the movie, he was good at it.”
The chemistry between the two is visible, but he dodges mention of his off-screen chemistry with Amy and ignores a question of whether rumours of him moving in with Amy are true. He focuses on questions relating to the movie and his stint in the industry.
He says the last three-four years that he has spent as an actor in the industry have changed him a lot. “I’ve changed in a big way. I’ve become mature enough to understand things. I have learnt to handle situations,” he says, but is quick to add that the “shyness” which is often related to his personality is something that he likes. “This shyness is more about me liking to be in my own world, so maybe that won’t change ever,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
