‘In awe of Sanju uncle’

Nazia Hussain would love to make her mark in the film industry simply on her own merit, but the bubbly girl understands the curiosity her family lineage is generating. Nazia, who will be seen in this Friday’s release, Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai, happens to be legendary actor Nargis’ grand niece.

“My grand father Akhtar Hussain was her brother,” she says. So that brings another question, pertaining to Sanjay Dutt’s reaction, as his reservation about his daughter’s filmi aspirations is well known. “I belong to the Hussain family and my parents have always supported me. Sanjay uncle is a big star and has worked really hard in his career. I have never been very close to him, rather I am completely in awe of him. And to put all speculation to rest, I am inviting the Dutt family for the film’s premiere,” she says confidently.
In fact Nazia says, it was Sanjay’s sister Namrata whose casual recommendation set the ball rolling for her. “Ashim Samanta, the producer liked my picture and I was called for an audition.”
The film, which looks like a mushy love story, has two families sworn to enmity with love blossoming between them.
“The storyline brings a lot of fresh element, with a lot of twist and turns. I was also lured by the fact that the Shakti Samanta banner has such a huge legacy behind it. Aditya Samanta, my co-actor, is an absolute delight in front of the camera. And the film also has an impressive cameo casts, that include Anuradha Patel, Farida Jalal and Mukesh Khanna. The music too is quite catchy,” assures Nazia, who has previously worked with an adventure travel company.
Aditya may have the luxury of enjoying the perks in his home production, but the thought does not deter Nazia. “Usually in a love story, both the protagonists manage an equal footage. In all honestly, Ashim sir treated Aditya and me at par. If we faltered, both were subjected to a good scolding and if we were impressive, then there was no hesitation in offering compliments. I had no restriction in looking for new roles and even now I am going for auditions in search of good roles,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
