Art that uplifts and educates
He may just be 22, but the creative — and determined — Tanuj Bhramar is already holding his first solo exhibition in Mumbai. After shuttling around the country with his diplomat parents, Tanuj finally settled in Ranchi, and later attended the Doon School, where he says his inherent love of art was nurtured, through basic training in oil painting.
A course in filmmaking in the US would expose him to the influences of interactive media, but Tanuj says his love for painting stayed with him.
“When I returned home after finishing college, my priority was to make movies. But I just couldn’t get my mind off painting. Painting soothed my mind. I took to it once again and it transformed from being a hobby to a passion,” he says.
Tanuj will be donating 20 per cent of the proceeds from his debut exhibition to Vikas Bharti, an NGO that works towards educating tribal children. “The cause of educating the underprivileged has always been of great importance to me, and I hoped to amalgamate my passion with a vision of a literate India,” says the artist.
