The art of ‘lying’

“What?! Men don’t lie to their women,” was Vipul Goyal’s pat reply. Spoken like a true stand-up comic. Yes, men don’t lie to their women and God planted dinosaur fossils to test man’s faith. It’s the unspoken truth that every relationship needs a healthy dose of falsehood to keep everyone concerned happy.

From ‘I understand’ to ‘You are the prettiest girl here’, men use a variety of ‘altered truths’ to diffuse a situation and/or put off an argument till later. But which ones are the most popular?
After further coaxing, Vipul lets on that the most common one is probably ‘She’s just a friend.’ “Guys wander. It’s in their nature,” he says matter-of-factly. Though Olive Beach’s Chef Manu is of the opinion that the men of our species are ‘prolific liars’, he feels that if there’s anything men slip up on the most, it’s in keeping time. “When men say ‘I’ll be back in 10 minutes’, they really don’t mean it”, he said. Do Tell!
For model Ankit Kaur the most common fib men tell is that they would revisit an argument on a later date. “When we say let’s talk about it later, we actually mean never and hope to God that you’d forget all about it.” But probably the most harmless of these are the naïve ones that are meant to impress the ladies. Former VJ and current MD of Lightbulb Ideas, Craig, says that most men lie about how much they are rolling in cash. “Haven’t you had any guy tell you how big and expensive his car is?” he asked. If we had a buck for every time, Craig. If we had a buck.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
