Art extravaganza to woo city with myriad colours
It’s art attack as the third edition of the India Art Summit (IAS) is set to woo art aficionados in the city once again. This time, the annual do gets bigger and better as more than 500 artists, 84 galleries and 20 countries have confirmed their participation. The art extravaganza will begin on January 21 and will go on for three days at Pragati Maidan, hall number 18.
Neha Kirpal, director, India Art Summit shares more details about the highlights of the event and how it will be a boost to many aspiring and established artists. She says, “The IAS 2011 is conceptualised like a trade fair of art, where one can enjoy the art fair, Sculpture Park, video lounge, speaker’s forum and art projects. The art fair will be showcasing the works of established and emerging modern and contemporary artists as well as new solo projects. Here, art collectors, curators and the general public can come and understand the works of Indian artists.”
The IAS 2011 will also have an added attraction of the expanded Sculpture Park, where India’s most significant sculptors will be showcasing their creations. There will also be a video lounge that will have works of some prominent video artists. “A series of talks and seminars about art related issues have also been organised. These will be addressed by acclaimed artists, curators and museum directors. We also have a separate section of eight projects representing works of Indian and international contemporary artists,” adds Neha.
Tunty Chuhan, an art curator and owner of Gallery Threshold says this is a fabulous concept that provides a good platform to emerging contemporary artists. She says, “We will be curating an important show this time, which will be a collateral event at the VIP show also. The artworks of artist V. Ramesh will be a special highlight of our show.” Another participating art gallery from Delhi is Gallery Nvya, which will be showcasing the works of artist Seema Kohli at the exhibition that will be a part of “open for all” shows.
