Are iPhone 5 buyers idiots?
A few weeks ago, DC featured a story on how Apple and Samsung have officially ‘gone to war’ after Samsung lost the billion-dollar lawsuit. The events surrounding the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and the more recent iPhone 5, only go to reinstate that fact.
Ever since the announcement of iPhone 5’s release, rival company Samsung has rolled out a print ad mocking Apple’s premier phone by making it look less appealing in comparison to the offerings of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S3 handset. The ad lists some of the iPhone 5’s most talked-about features and right beside it are corresponding features of Galaxy S3. But after a point, iPhone 5’s list ends, while S3’s list goes on. And to add salt to injury, at the top of the ad is the tagline ‘It doesn’t take a genius,’ a dig at Apple’s fanboys who already reserved spots for the new phone in huge numbers.
This was last week. Two days ago, Samsung continues its volley of attacks on iPhone and this time, it was by way of an ad where Samsung pokes fun at Apple customers who wait in line outside stores for the iPhone 5. The advertisement promotes the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, noting that it has already deployed LTE and a larger display, ahead of the iPhone 5. In the ad, one young man in line using an S III to the distress of others waiting with him, yields his spot to his parents to buy their iPhones. Another iPhone fan tells a friend that the iPhone 5 head jack “Is going to be on the bottom!” Yet another complains that Apple should give priority to people who have waited in line five times for iPhones.
For this ad, the main message of the attack is ‘The next big thing is already here — Samsung Galaxy S III’
Whether Apple will respond to Samsung’s latest attack ads, is anybody’s guess. But the way Samsung is headed, these seem unlikely to be the last of Samsung’s mud slinging. Well, one thing that is evident from this is — Samsung and Apple stopped playing nice a long time ago.
