Apocalypse!

The Web has been an incessant source for shock and disgust. But all in just six days? We’ll just add the word ‘unprecedented’ here.
In Miami this week, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene was shot dead trying to eat a man alive. Police say over 75 per cent of the victim’s face was ‘consumed’ and he’s still critical in care. Two days later, Alexander Kinyua devoured his roommate’s brain and heart and then New Jersey man Wayne Carter threw his own intestines at the SWAT team who were trying to stop him from disembowelling himself.
The Internet was shocked and many just locked doors, stocked up on bread and prepared for the Apocalypse.
We noticed that this week was just particularly violent. But these violent acts seem tame compared to a video that also surfaced on Thursday.
An 18-year-old Malaysian woman has been videotaped beating her OWN eight-month-old infant half to death. We showed the clip to an unfortunate select few and it just reduced them to tears. The heartless assault on the helpless, screaming child has now sparked worldwide outrage and just when there was a mob big enough demanding the the woman’s head, it emerged that the incident was from last year and the woman is currently serving time behind bars. Questions also arose asking why the videographer let the violence unfold and many were simply stumped by the mother’s apparent hatred toward the child.
“I don’t know what it takes to ignore a screaming baby’s pain,” asks Jason Mathias, a student of psychology — the only one we could call in times like these.
“We have a mother here who’s disturbed enough to ignore her baby’s cries. She obviously needs help and I hope she gets it.”
Is this the apocalypse Mr Mathias? “I don’t know about that but after that video, I think humanity has dropped a notch.”
Mathias also explained about postpartum depression and how it can turn a mother against her own offspring.
If you do decide to further read about any of the above, remember that associated clips and photographs include graphic content, severe user warnings and just about enough evil in them to not let you sleep for months.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
