Angel, tarot decks lure adventurous youngsters

When Meera Nath, a media professional, accidently stumbled upon Doreen Virtue’s Angel card decks at a bookstore she frequented, little did she know that they will soon become an important part of her life.
“Having read Healing with the Angels by Doreen, I developed a more sensitive corner for angels, reaffirming my belief that they are around us. I picked up the deck when I was going through a very emotional phase in my life. My relationship had just ended and I sought solace in angel cards. At first, I was a bit unsure, but following instructions was easy and I did a reading for myself whenever I was low. It helped me pull myself up in no time and it also helped instil self-confidence and gave me insight about myself.”
Angel cards and tarot decks have been around for some time and bookstores too affirm that the sale never really plummeted. Ganesh Kumar Shah, sales in-charge of Om Book shop says, “Doreen Virtue’s decks are quite popular, we do have youngsters picking them up as gifting options. We roughly sell over 25-30 such decks in a month including tarot decks.”
Vidisha Singh, a student, says that she learnt tarot on her own. “Tarot always fascinated me. I believe in astrology, but always had a feeling that tarot cards are different. I had some connection with it. As they say spirituality has many paths I used tarot to follow it. It has helped me become more intuitive and I asked a friend to gift me a set. I believe that these things become more powerful when they are gifted by loved ones. I used to carry my tarot book everywhere in my cab, to college, just to be sure of the interpretations and then I realised that it helps me analyse situations better. I find it different from astrology because it’s not only a prediction, but also guides you whether you are on the right path or not,” she says with a smile.
Asad Baig of Midland bookshop says, “We sell over 25 tarot and angel decks every week. We have regulars from all age groups, and even have overseas clients, who ask about these decks.
Priyanka Vashisth, pranic healer, picked up angel cards while browsing through the tarot section in a bookstore.
“Angel card readings are very accurate. I was earlier practicing tarot, but very often I delve into these cards as well,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
