Amitosh likes to be a jack of all trades
In today’s time when everyone wants instant success, this actor still likes to keep things old fashioned. Actor and scriptwriter Amitosh Nagpal, who made his acting debut in commercial movies with Dabangg and later bagged projects like Rangrezz and Aarakshan, is now geared up for his next film Besharam, directed by Abhinav Kashyap.
Amitosh, who plays the second besharam and actor Ranbir Kapoor’s friend in the film, mentions that his role in the movie is quite meaty. He says, “The story revolves around two friends, where Ranbir plays the lead role of Babli and I am his friend Titu. We are orphan car thieves who are generous and bindaas. For the movie, both Ranbir and I have recorded a song called Love Ki Ghanti. It was a great experience working with him and his parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor. Since the backdrop of the movie is based in Delhi and Haryana, I helped them with the accent and the lingo of this region.”
Amitosh, who was one of the lyricists in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, is also working on two scripts and one of his movies Gulaab Gang starring Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla will be out this year. So how does he juggle acting and writing? He says, “I hail from Haryana and right from childhood I wanted to be an actor, in school and college I did theatre and later studied at the National School Of Drama. I like to keep things simple and I don’t shy away from hard work. I know acting requires a lot of patience and I am still learning, so there’s no rush. In all these years I have closely observed how the movie business functions. I like to read and write, and as an actor I get a lot of free time between shoots, so I write dialogues, scripts and songs. I feel it’s very natural for a person to be an actor, singer, writer and more because that is how it used to be in earlier times when people started making films. Acting is my passion and I think a good actor should know all aspects of film making — on and off camera.”
Apart from movies, Amitosh has also translated Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night into Hindi and staged a play Piya Behrupiya in Mumbai and abroad. Speaking about his projects in the pipeline, he says, “I am currently working on a crossover project called For Here Or To Go? It deals with the subject of Indian immigrants in USA and I am playing one of the lead roles in this movie. I am also doing a screenplay for Samik Sen and working on two film scripts with Maqbool Khan.”
