Amit on cloud nine
As a television actor, he became a household name with serials like Kyun Hota Hain Pyarr and Guns and Roses and reality shows like Big Boss and Nach Baliye. However, he quit the small screen to try his luck in Bollywood. The wait to get a meaningful role was a long one for Amit Sadh, but a fruitful one. The actor will be seen playing one of the three main protagonists in Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che. The film, based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller, The 3 mistakes of my life, has already managed to create a positive buzz among cine enthusiasts.
Talking about the long wait to bag the film, Amit says, “Since childhood, I always wanted to become an actor. While I managed to do well in television, Bollywood was my ultimate destination. It has been a long struggle and I had to wait for over six years for bagging the role. I am thankful that this film came my way.”
Set in Ahmedabad, the film traces the life of three close friends, Ishaan Bhatt, Omkaar Shastri and Govind Patel. Amit portrays the character of Omkaar Shastri.
“Omkaar or Omi as he is fondly called by his friends is this bhola-bhala guy and a real sweetheart. However, he lacks any direction in life. But as the story unfolds, he goes through a lot of emotional turmoil and physical changes. This has a certain effect on him. The character is immensely layered and I completely loved portraying it,” elucidates Amit.
So is there any similarity between Omi and Amit? “On the face of it, no, we are completely different personalities and it was quite a challenge portraying the role. However, the soul of the character is quite similar to mine,” responds the good-looking actor.
Sharing his camaraderie with his co-stars, Amit adds, “We were a very young team and it was super fun working with Sushant, Rajkumar and Amrita. There was a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm on the sets. Since the film is about friendship, we had to have a certain vibe amidst us, which was definitely there.”
Just like most young actors, Amit is in awe of Amitabh Bachchan. “He is a brilliant actor and has managed to take up most diverse roles. I also like Rishi Kapoor. Among the younger lot, I love Ranbir’s acting and find it pretty effortless. He has definitely set high standards,” he smiles. Amit is a huge fan of Vidya Balan. “If ever there is a competition to decide who is her biggest fan, I would win it hands down,” he says.
He is enjoying the attention and positive feedback from the film fraternity at the moment. “I have been receiving some overwhelming response regarding my role in the film. It is too early to talk about my future endeavours. I have definitely received interesting offers. But I like taking one step at a time,” finishes Amit.
