An amazing race indeed
The Great Kiwi Hunt is an “easy level” challenge, and the first in a set of 24 challenge maps that span easy, medium and hard. The first map took 15 minutes, and I visited all seven Kiwi spotting sites, using three of the direction change squares along the way.
Race Around The World from the Dr. Wood Challenge Centre is a `599 stroke of genius, letting you travel to many countries including India. Some maps will have you sail the Nile, and the Pacific, others have you on a great African treasure hunt, or even attempting an escape from Alcatraz!
Clip a challenge map onto the decidedly examination pad-like board. Open the erasable marker, and begin your journey from the start point. I come from a generation that used slides, and then overhead projectors for presentations. An eternity before computers and LCD projectors became a part of everyday life. The acetate sheet used as a transparent overlay on the challenge map brought back a flood of memories.
Nostalgia done with, the challenge of the game took over. All destinations must be connected in a closed loop. Each location can be visited only once. Travel paths may cross, and be used multiple times. I tried playing with a group of game enthusiasts, and the many well-intended suggestions had the eraser constantly in use. Clearly, this is a solo game. Confronted with numerous possibilities, this isn’t about charting the best course. It’s all about finding the only course!
