Amateurs capture colours of life
There was a time when photography was meant only for professionals. And even when Kodak, and later digital technology, brought cameras to many households, it was just the professionals who could exhibit their photographs to a larger audience. But the times have changed.
Now not only amateur photographers can have photography as a hobby with many patrons on social media sites, they finally have a platform to exhibit their clicks in the galleries. The third edition of “Nicefoto” exhibition that kicks off today offers this opportunity to amateur photographers and hobbyists.
According to Virendra Shekhawat, co-founder of Delhi Photography Club that is organising this event, this initiative offers a bridge between beginner and professional photography. “It is an art that needs admirers and if it doesn’t have any, the passion for photography dies. In Delhi, amateur photographers were never taken seriously. But things are changing now and Delhi is accepting them,” he said.
For B.D. Sharma, a senior environmental consultant, photography was just a means to familiarise his family with the places he visited. But now, two of his pictures are going to be displayed for all Delhiites.
“I tend to visit a lot of places because of my work and just keep a camera handy. I have had no training and I just click pictures to tell my family about the places that I visit,” he said. In fact it was his daughter Marisha who submitted his pictures along with hers.
The exhibition will display pictures by 143 artists from India and some other countries like China, Singapore, France, United States and Croatia among other countries and will be on till July 14 at India Habitat Center.
