Always work and hardly any play
Owner and CEO of Sterling Media, one of the leading PR firms internationally, 20-something Natasha Mudhar’s is a sweet success story indeed. Having won the The Asian Who’s Who award for the best international media entrepreneur in the UK, Natasha is enjoying every bit of her work.
“My work is all about building a brand and educating people about it. It gives me the ability to change perceptions and influence opinions and that is what I love about my job,” she says. Born and brought up in the UK, Natasha took over the reins of the business from her mother. “My mother started the company 20-odd years ago. Being a woman from an ethnic minority background wasn’t easy for her then. My mother had to fight all odds to survive in the industry. Fortunately things have turned around today,” she says in a crisp British accent.
Talking about the demanding aspect of the profession she says, “It can be difficult to convince people that what you’re trying to sell is very credible indeed. For eg. It is difficult to tell people that a Shah Rukh Khan could make more money than a Tom Cruise.” Having worked with global brands like Aston Martin, Chivas Regal, 2012 Olympics and Bollywood A-listers like the Senior Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and many more, Natasha knows the tricks of the trade. “PR is part of my bloodline. It’s my passion and I love doing it,” she says.
Natasha admits that work has not allowed her to take a break for as long as she can remember. “I can’t remember a time when I took a relaxing two weeks off work.
Maybe 10 years ago,” she chuckles, adding, “Replying to mails at 3 am and working on weekends is what my typical week is like.”
However, when she does manage to find some time for herself, the entrepreneur indulges in the simpler pleasure of life. “I like to do things that any girl my age does. Nothing out of the ordinary. On a day off, I’ll either watch films, sit down for a quiet dinner with family or listen to some music,” she adds.
A self confessed workaholic, Natasha has big designs for the future of her company. I want to further enhance my brand and make Sterling a global name to reckon with,” she concludes.
