All set for Superness

The superheroes are back. Guys everywhere are talking about The Avengers which hits theatres this week. Also in the making, are The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-man. So what is it about comic book superheroes that has grown men hooked? We find out who their favourites are and what powers every guy would love to have.
Batman seems to be at the top of the list, despite the fact that he has no inherent superpowers. Model Zainn, a fan of the caped crusader, states, “He may not have any powers, but he has the Batmobile!” With the resources of Wayne Enterprises at his disposal, and his amazing detective skills, Bruce Wayne more than makes up for his lack of superpowers.
Gone are the days when superheroes were considered kiddie stuff. The age demographic of fans has certainly changed, says model-turned-actor Shahwar Ali. “I like superhero movies, my father likes them, and my seven-year-old nephew likes them too. They have a universal appeal that cuts across all ages,” he says, adding, “If I could be a superhero, I’d be Superman.” His superhuman strength, speed, flight, super senses and invulnerability make him a tough match for anyone, even another superhero.
For entrepreneur Zubair AH, it’s got to be Wolverine. “I love the retractable adamantium claws, strength and reflexes,” he says, not to mention his amazing healing powers that keep him ageless. While Wolverine has artificial enhancements, Zubair adds, “He is also skilled in virtually all martial arts and an amazing swordsman.”
Another billionaire playboy, who also happens to wear a superhero suit, is Iron Man Tony Stark. IT professional Arjun S says, “Who wouldn’t want an armour that gives you superhuman strength, the power to fly and an array of weapons.” Digging deeper, he adds, “Iron Man is my favourite because of his back story, his ideology and most of all, his vulnerability. There’s a human weakness in every superhero, and maybe, a little bit of superhero in all of us.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
