Ali’s new quest for music

In today’s day and age of talent, here’s one man who is making way to identify and promote new talent. We meet the hazel-green eyed Lucky Ali with an unkempt beard, a gorgeous ex-UK model wife Kate (who’s changed her name to Ayesha post her marriage to Lucky) with his four-month old baby boy Danny in tow and aspirations looming large of starting a revolution in terms of offering Bengaluru some soulful music.
“The idea came from Raj Hansoge. We identified a number of artistes, who are looking to make a mark for this series of musical shows, starting with Bengaluru and then moving pan-India. We are kickstarting on December 10 at Angsana. It’s going to be a ghazal night under the open starlit sky, where I introduce Jaswant Singh, a brilliant ghazal singer to Bengaluru. His purist renditions and melodious voice are apt for ghazal singing. He will also sings film songs with equal panache,” shares Lucky.
All excited about his new venture, he adds, “I’m a huge Jagjit Singh fan, who was also my good friend, so the least I can do is launch a series of events to promote upcoming artistes, beginning with a tribute to the ghazal maestro. I will also sing some ghazals on the night and then Jaswant will take over. If everyone likes my ghazals, who knows I might be the next ghazal king,” he adds jokingly with a whimsical smile. But this series of musical nights that will take place once a month will feature varied artistes with music spanning myriad genres like qawallis, poetry, stand up comedy, kavi sammelan, rock and ballad to reach a bigger base of music fans.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
