Of advanced warfare at deep sea
Battleship Hidden Threat from Hasbro takes a much loved naval warfare classic, moves it into a cards format, and builds in a whole new level of strategic capability.
From the conventional alpha-numeric call out of positions on a 10x10 grid, you are immersed in far more nuanced and multi-dimensional warfare. After suitable pre-game set up, two players face off with their respective 4x3 battle grids. Armed with a shuffled five cards hand of destruction, you race to be the first to destroy all five enemy ships.
The Submarine, PT Boat, Destroyer, Aircraft Carrier, each require a specific number of hits to sink them. In the first of several startling twists, you deploy seek, and seek-and-destroy attacks. With the former you expose enemy position. With the latter, you register a hit. Never-before power cards let you create a force shield that requires more hits to penetrate through to your ship. Mid-sea repairs can be carried out, if you figure out how to juggle the many attack- defense possibilities into a cohesive strategy. At `199 Battleship Hidden threat is a formidable buy. Resplendent in Republican and Democrat colours the deck is a visual treat. The handy travel pack styling gives mobility in warfare a whole new meaning.
