‘Actors are easy targets’
Delhi is like second home for style diva and ramp scorcher Sonam Kapoor for whom a visit to the capital is incomplete without a trip to her favourite restaurants. “Bengali Sweets rocks for me. I love to go to the Parathewali Gali as much as I like to dine at Megu, Leela or Bukhara, Maurya. I love Delhi but I have to admit that unlike Mumbai where I can be out till 2 am, I think twice about stepping out after 7 pm here,” said the 27-year-old, who was in Delhi to announce the first Delhi edition of the India International Jewellery Week by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Sonam confesses that she doesn’t invest in property and instead buys diamonds. Stressing on the need to go easy on tonnes of artificial jewellery and to buy gold and diamonds, she said, “I wear a lot of real jewellery. I think instead of buying copious amount of junk jewellery, it is better to have one real piece of it.”
It’s going to be a busy year for the actress as she is part of many big projects including Bhaag Milkha Bhaag opposite Farhan Akhtar, Ranjhanaa, which marks Dhanush’s Bollywood debut, Yash Raj Films’ next alongside dishy Ayushmann Khuranna and a remake of 1980 hit film Khoobsurat.
After a war of words between Sonam and Abhay Deol, post the BO tragedy of Aisha, the duo seems to have buried the hatchet for Anand Rai’s Ranjhanaa. “Yes, I am working with Abhay and pretty excited about the project. In fact the audience will see more of me in Ranjhanaa than in Milkha. I am playing a JNU student and researching for the role has educated me. Working with Anand was a pleasure,” she chirps.
Draped in a beige Suneet Varma sari, Sonam revealed that she would be launching her fashion label soon. She counts Shahid Kapur, dad Anil Kapoor and Imran Khan among the best dressers in the industry.
“Rekhaji dresses up really well. I love Kalki for her style sense. She has her own individuality,” she says.
Sonam didn’t miss a chance to express her displeasure over the 12.36 per cent service tax levied on actors.
“I pay all the taxes on time. The government is taking an extra amount of tax from us. Unfortunately I don’t know where is the money going. We are easy targets and being bullied by the government. We are just filling our money in corrupt politicians’ pockets. If my money really went into developing the country I’d be more than happy to give it. In the absence of which I would prefer to give it to charity,” she sums up.
