21-yr-old author pens fifth book

Twenty one-year-old Nikita Singh already has four books to her kitty — Love@Facebook, Accidentally in Love, If It’s Not Forever... It’s Not Love and The Promise and she is ready for the release of her fifth book Someone Like You co-authored with Durjoy Datta.
Her latest book Someone Like You is a story about friendship, love and betrayal. She wrote it with Durjoy. The creative differences that creep in when two minds are at work didn’t deter them from embarking on this journey. “We had a lot of arguments, clashes of thought-flow and we have different ways of writing. But at the end of the day, we realised that despite all the disputes, the story was shaping up well,” she informs.
Becoming an author wasn’t a well-thought decision for Nikita who was studying pharmacy. But during her second year, she felt there was something missing. She was not cut for it.
She did finish her graduation but has taken up writing full time. “I have always been an avid reader. I felt this urge to get involved in the conversation, not just as a reader, but as a writer too. I felt like I had a story to share. There are books I have read that have inspired me, touched a chord somewhere. I wanted to have the same effect on people through my writing. So, one day, I picked up a pen and just went for it.”
Since so many youngsters are writing in English, and with an overkill of college, Facebook love, breakup and then marriage stories, how does she plan to infuse novelty in her book?
“No matter how many people start writing, if you have a story good enough to be shared, there shall always be people willing to read. It’s about how a writer perceives things and puts it down on paper. However, I agree that the bar has lowered and with new publishing houses that only concentrate on making money, it’s easier to get published,” she explains.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
