State to do away with homework
In a bid to ease the pressure on the students, the state government has decided to do away with the homework. State school education minister Partha De announced this on Wednesday.
The new measure is going to be implemented at all the government and government-aided schools in phases. According to Mr De, the students are overburdened with homework and hence do not get time for other activities at their home. “We do not want to overburden them. The students will not be required to do homework anymore. From now onwards, they will have to finish all their assignments in the classes,” he added.
To implement this decision, a special training programme for the teachers will be conducted by the school education department, sources said. The government’s move has come as a major breather for the students as well as their parents from the load of homework.

July 28: A day after school education minister Partha De warned that the state government would take immediate action against any teacher found guilty of inflicting physical or mental torture on a student, yet another incident of corporal punishment took place.
The headmaster of Hariharpara Sahajadpur High School, Moloy Kumar Roy allegedly canned a Class 10 student Ujjwal Das on Wednesday. The boy was severely injured and had to be admitted to the Amtala Block Hospital. Ujjwal’s only fault was that his guardian failed to turn up in the school after being called by the headmaster. An FIR has been lodged by the boy’s maternal uncle.
