No salary for six months, teacher hangs himself
A vocational teacher of Garh Raipur High School in Bankura committed suicide after allegedly failing to get his salary for the last six months. Tapan Satputi, 40, was the only earning member of his family which consists of his parents, wife and a seven-year-old. A resident of Silaboni village under Simlapal police station, he hung himself from a tree in Jharia area of Indpur police station area.
Satputi who was recruited by state vocational education council had not received his salary since June 2012. In fact, he was not the only teacher who was facing a financial crisis due to non-payment of salary. There are around 1,800 such teachers in 199 high schools in Bankura district. These vocational teachers have now decided to hold a protest at College square in Kolkata against the irregularities in payment of salary.
