Man dies due to medical ‘negligence’
A 50-year-old patient lost his life due to alleged medical negligence at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH). Prankrishna Sarkar was allegedly pushed an anti-venom injection by an on-duty nurse at the medicine ward on Tuesday evening following his admission with septicaemia in the afternoon. The resident of Boral in South 24 Parganas died at around 9.20 am on Wednesday after complaining of respiratory distress and convulsion.
When his relatives rushed to the hospital after getting the news of his death, they found that the body had turned pale. The injection was to be given to a patient Asit Naskar, admitted with snake bite at the next bed, alleged the victim’s son, Pinaki. CNMCH medical superintendent-cum-vice principal Partha Pratim Pradhan said that a three-member inquiry committee led by head of the department of medicine Subir Banerjee has been set up to probe the incident. “If anyone is found guilty, strong action will be taken,” he added.
