Karat: Mamata has failed to keep promises
CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Friday said that Mamata Banerjee had failed to keep the promises she had made to the people of West Bengal in the run-up to the Assembly polls. Commenting on the state government’s failure to tackle grave issues like farmer suicides and crib deaths, Mr Karat termed it a “failed administration.” He was speaking after the conclusion of the four-day central committee meeting at Alimuddin Street party office in Kolkata.
Referring to the spate of farmers’ suicide, Mr Karat said that it was the result of the state government’s poor procurement policy. He claimed that the chief minister had made the panchayat system virtually non-functional. “Till now, there are reports of 21 farmers having committed suicide. This reflects not only the policies of the Central government, but the gross failure on the part of the Bengal government,” he said.
