Didi takes fight on Singur to FB
After creating a sensation about her Facebook campaign for A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for the President’s post, chief minister Mamata Banerjee is now all out to create mass opinion in her favour on the Singur issue on social networking site and has described her Singur movement “a turning point in the recent history”.
Significantly her post came after her meeting on Saturday at Town Hall to launch mass movement on the issue.
In the evening, the chief minister posted on her official Facebook page: “Thank you very much for your overwhelming response to my post on Singur yesterday. This has deeply touched my heart. Your moral support at this juncture is a great source of inspiration to continue our struggle for the cause of farmers. Singur land movement is a turning point in the recent history.”
Reminding the netizens of her fierce movement against Tata Motors’ Nano project in Singur during the Communist regime, Ms Banerjee explained, “The sensitivity to land primarily in our agrarian economy, has come to the forefront out of our fight on Singur land issue, during which I was on 26 days hunger strike. That movement started a serious debate in the country on the issue of land acquisition from small poor and marginal farmers.”
Before concluding, Ms Mamata Banerjee added that, “Since it is difficult for me to address each and everyone separately, I am sending my appreciation to all of those who have expressed support towards farmers land rights and the people’s democratic movement on this issue. I also thank those who have held different views. This is the essence of our democracy. Let us continue to share our thoughts through this forum.”
