Body of missing girl recovered from trunk

The naked body of a Class 11 girl was recovered from inside a trunk hidden under a bed at her uncle’s house at Nokari village in Ranaghat on Wednesday morning.
The girl, identified as Mithu Pranamik, a student of Ranaghat Debnath Institution, was missing since July 3. The uncle of the deceased, Rabi Dutta, 42, is absconding.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was strangulated to death. The police is also not ruling out the possibility of rape before murder. The body was sent for post-mortem. Victim’s father Laxman Pramanik has lodged a complaint at Ranaghat police station against the accused uncle.
The locals alerted the police after they got an obnoxious stench.
